Wade Goring, who creates art under the moniker of GWA, is primarily a 2D digital artist, illustrator and designer with a background in television production.
Wade’s artistic interest began in high school where he studied art through out and learned many of the techniques he still employs to this day.
While traditional art study did continue after graduating, Wade studied film and television production which relied on his visual strengths and further developed them.
Around 2006, Wade stumbled upon a set on online tutorials that showed an artist further developing their pencil sketches in photoshop to created striking works that would be difficult to created if you weren’t an adept painter. Let’s give this a go he thought. Sketching out a grumpy cartoon mouse, fists clenched by his sides, Wade threw the loose paper onto a scanner and brought the drawing into the digital world. He experimented with the brushes, the colour palette and the layers until an image appeared that was reasonable enough to show another person. Inspired, Wade searched for more tutorials online and began to learn a great deal more about the program but also became reinvigorated to draw and express via art. Years working in TV disciplined Wade with regard to narrative and this affected the art he began to create. It needed to a least hint at some kind of story, often based around character.
Wade continues to experiment with Photoshop, and many other mediums, always starting was pencil to paper. Sometimes the drawing all but disappears as the work evolves into a completely new piece but other times the drawing is very apparent, celebrated within the hyper-coloured pixels. Stories are evident too, based around a central figure or character, their pose and expression depicting a narrative whether it be brief or expansive in the eye of the beholder.
Wade Goring is a television producer, illustrator and digital artist whose work is influenced by and comments on queer culture, comic art, street art, pop art, pop surrealism, cinema, production design and advertising.
